Welcome today 227 of the Bible 365 Podcast. My name is Randy Gudo and today we're going to be reading through Nehemiah chapter 9 verses 22 through 38 and chapter 10. 1 Corinthians chapter 9 verses 19 through 27 and chapter 10 verses 1 through 13, Psalm chapter 34, verses 1 through 10, and Proverbs chapter 21, verse 13. The translation I'm using throughout this podcast is the Berean Standard Bible, also known as the BSB. Let's read. Nehemiah chapter 9 verses 22 through 38. You gave them kingdoms and peoples and allotted to them every corner of the land. So they took the land of Sion, king of Heshbon, and of Og, King of Bashan. You multiplied their descendants like the stars of heaven, and brought them to the land you had told their fathers to enter and possess. So their descendants went in and possessed the land. You subdued before them the Canaanites dwelling in the land. You delivered into their hands the kings and peoples of the land, to do with them as they wished. They captured fortified cities and fertile land, and took houses full of all goods, wells already dug, vineyards, olive groves, and fruit trees in abundance. So they ate and were filled. They grew fat and delighted in your great goodness. But they were disobedient and rebelled against you. They flung your law behind their backs. They killed your prophets who had admonished them to return to you. They committed terrible blasphemies. So you delivered them into the hands of enemies who oppressed them, and in their time of distress they cried out to you. From heaven you heard them, and in your great compassion you gave them deliverers who saved them from the hands of their enemies. But as soon as they had rest, they again did evil in your sight. So you abandoned them to the hands of their enemies who had dominion over them. When they cried out to you again, you heard from heaven, and you delivered them many times in your compassion. You admonished them to turn back to your law, but they were arrogant and disobeyed your commandments. They sinned against your ordinances, by which a man will live if he practices them. They turned a stubborn shoulder, they stiffened their necks and would not obey. You were patient with them for many years, and your spirit admonished them through your prophets, yet they would not listen. So you gave them into the hands of the neighboring peoples. But in your great compassion you did not put an end to them, nor did you forsake them, for you are a gracious and compassionate God. So now, our God, the great and mighty and awesome God who keeps his gracious covenant, do not view lightly all the hardship that has come upon us, and upon our kings and leaders, our priests and prophets, our ancestors and all your people, from the days of the kings of Assyria until today, you are just in all that has befallen us, because you have acted faithfully while we have acted wickedly. Our kings and leaders and priests and fathers did not obey your law or listen to your commandments and warnings that you gave them. For even while they were in their kingdom, with the abundant goodness that you had given them, and in the spacious and fertile land that you had set before them, they would not serve you or turn from their wicked ways. So here we are today as slaves in the land you gave our fathers to enjoy its fruit and goodness. Here we are as slaves. Its abundant harvest goes to the kings you have set over us because of our sins, and they rule over our bodies and our livestock as they please. We are in great distress. In view of all this, we make a binding agreement, putting it in writing and sealing it with the names of our leaders, Levites, and priests. Nehemiah chapter 10. Now these were the ones who sealed the document. Nehemiah the governor, son of Hakaliah, and also Zedekiah, Sariah, Azariah, Jeremiah, Pasher, Amariah, Malchaijah, Hadish, Shemaniah, Malek, Harem, Miramoth, Obadiah, Daniel, Ginnathon, Baruch, Mesholam, Abijah, Mideman, Meaziah, Bilgai, and Shemaiah. These were the priest, the Levites, Jeshua, son of Azaniah, Binuai of the sons of Hinedad, Cadmiel, and their associates, Shaboniah, Hodiah, Kalidah, Peleah, Hanan, Micah, Rehab, Hashabiah, Zakar, Sherabiah, Sheboniah, Hodiah, Bani, and Beninu, and the leaders of the people, Parash, Pahath Moab, Elam, Zatu, Banai, Bunai, Azgad, Bibai, Adonijah, Bigvi, Aden, Adar, Hezekiah, Azur, Hodiah, Hashem, Bizai, Haraph, Anathoth, Nebai, Magpayash, Meshulam, Hezer, Meshezbel, Zadok, Jeduah, Pelatiah, Hanan, Anneah, Hoshea, Hananiah, Hashab, Halohesh, Pilha, Shobek, Rehum, Heshabnah, Maessiah, Ahijah, Hanan, Anan, Malak, Harem, and Baana. The rest of the people, the priest, Levites, gatekeepers, singers, temple servants, and all who had separated themselves from the people of the land to obey the law of God, along with their wives and all their sons and daughters who are able to understand, hereby join with their noble brothers and commit themselves with a sworn oath to follow the law of God given through his servant Moses and to obey carefully all the commandments, ordinances, and statutes of the Lord our Lord. We will not give our daughters in marriage to the people of the land, and we will not take their daughters for our sons. When the people of the land bring merchandise or any kind of grain to sell on the Sabbath day, we will not buy from them on a Sabbath or holy day. Every seventh year we will let the fields lie fallow and will cancel every debt. We also place ourselves under the obligation to contribute a third of a shekel yearly for the service of the house of our God, for the showbread, for the regular grain offerings and burnt offerings, for the Sabbath offerings, for the new moons and appointed feast, for the holy offerings, for the sin offerings to make atonement for Israel, and for all the duties of the house of our God. We have cast lots among the priests, Levites, and people for the donation of wood by our families at the appointed times each year. They are to bring it to the house of our God to burn on the altar of the Lord our God, as it is written in the law. We will also bring the firstfruits of our land and of every fruit tree to the house of the Lord year by year, and we will bring the firstborn of our sons and our livestock, as it is written in the law, and will bring the firstborn of our herds and flocks to the house of our God, to the priest who minister in the house of our God. Moreover, we will bring to the priest at the storerooms of the house of our God the firstfruits of our dough, of our grain offerings, of the fruit of all our trees, and of our new wine and oil. A tenth of our produce belongs to the Levites, so that they shall receive tithes in all the towns where we labor. A priest of Aaron's line is to accompany the Levites when they collect the tenth, and the Levites are to bring a tenth of these tithes to the storerooms of the treasury in the house of our God. For the Israelites and the Levites are to bring the contributions of grain, new wine, and oil to the storerooms where the articles of the sanctuary are kept, and where the ministering priest, the gatekeepers, and the singers stay. Thus we will not neglect the house of our God. Though I am free of obligation to anyone, I make myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law, I became like one under the law, though I myself am not under the law, to win those under the law. To those without the law, I became like one without the law, though I am not outside the law of God, but am under the law of Christ, to win those without the law. To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people, so that by all possible means I might save some. I do this all for the sake of the gospel, so that I may share in its blessings. Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way as to take the prize. Everyone who competes in the games trains with strict discipline. They do it for a crown that is perishable, but we do it for a crown that is imperishable. Therefore I do not run aimlessly. I do not fight like I am beating the air. No, I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified. I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that our forefathers were all under the cloud, and that they all passed through the sea. They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea. They all ate the same spiritual food and drank the same spiritual drink, for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ. Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them, for they were struck down in the wilderness. These things took place as examples to keep us from craving evil things as they did. Do not be idolaters as some of them were, as it is written, the people sat down to eat and drink, and got up to indulge in revelry. We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did, and in one day twenty three thousand of them died. We should not test Christ, as some of them did, and were killed by snakes, and do not complain, as some of them did, and were killed by the destroying angel. Now these things happened to them as examples, and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the fulfillment of the ages has come. So the one who thinks he is standing firm should be careful not to fall. No temptation has seized you except what is common to man, and God is faithful, he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide an escape, so that you can stand up under it. Psalm 34 verses 1 through 10. I will bless the Lord at all times, his praise will always be on my lips. My soul boast in the Lord, let the oppressed hear and rejoice. Magnify the Lord with me, let us exalt his name together. I sought the Lord and He answered me. He delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant with joy, their faces shall never be ashamed. This poor man called out, and the Lord heard him, he saved him from all his troubles. The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them. Taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him. Fear the Lord, you his saints, for those who fear him lack nothing. Young lions go lacking and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing. Proverbs twenty one, verse thirteen. Whoever shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too shall cry out and receive no answer. Today's devotional is coming from Psalm chapter thirty four, verse one. Now with the reading that we do for the Bible three hundred and sixty five, we read through the Psalms twice every year. So I've already read Psalm chapter thirty-four much earlier in the year. So I could have done a devotional on this verse, I don't know, I don't remember, and I'm not going to go and look it up because I really feel like I'm supposed to share about this today. Psalm chapter thirty-four, verse one says, I will bless the Lord at all times. His praise will always be on my lips. In the NLT it says, I will praise the Lord at all times. I will constantly speak his praises. So what does this mean? This means that we bless the Lord at all times, good times, bad times, sad times, happy times, times where you are experiencing tremendous abundance and prosperity and wealth, times when you are struggling and you are battling with poverty, when you're sick, when you're healthy, when you have a lot of friends and everyone just loves you, and also when you are alone. I will bless the Lord at all times. And we can learn this from David as we read about his life, and which we already have, and as we read the Psalms, David truly did bless the Lord at all times. And he didn't just say that, he said, his praise will always be on my lips. And I love how this reads in the NLT. I will constantly speak his praises. Speak means you open up your mouth and you say something. You're not quiet. You know, everybody that works with you or that's around you doesn't question and wonder. Hey, I wonder if that person walks with the Lord, if they're excited about walking with the Lord. Because David says, I will constantly speak his praises. Today, this just really speaks to me, and I hope that it challenges you and encourages you also, wherever you're at right now, whatever time it is in your life, good time, bad time, sick, healthy, wealthy, poor, lonely, full of company bless the Lord at all times, and let his praise always be on our lips. Let's pray. Father, I come to you in the name of Jesus. And today we say this that we will bless the Lord at all times, and your praise will always be on our lips. Draw us close by the presence of your Holy Spirit and reveal your Son to us. We ask all these things in the precious name of Jesus. Amen. Well, I sure hope you enjoyed today's devotional.
